Lloyd of the Flies: Script Development of an Animated Series

Lloyd of the Flies is a brand-new comedy series for 7-11-year-olds, set to premiere on CITV in September 2022. It’s created and directed by Matthew Walker, and he’s joined by Co-director and Voice Director Jane Davies. In this session, they’ll discuss the development process for this scripted series and how to craft genuinely funny dialogue with jokes that land for kids and adults too!

Join our panel of filmmakers and industry leaders, with filmmakers Jessie Curry and Benedict Robinson, Guardian video producer Josh Toussaint-Strauss, script editor Kate Leys, and writer, producer, director Georgia Goggin.

The intersection of music and film is long explored and adored - we talk to the directors behind the music videos, and the artists themselves, to discuss how they support their own artistry by paying to play. Hosted by award-winning filmmaker, programmer and music manager, Rasheed Bailey from Ghetto Film School London, we chat to acclaimed director and producer Michael Jenkins from 8th Sense Media and Blakwave, BAFTA nominated directing duo Karni and Saul, multi-award-winning animator and director Andrew Brand, and the truly original musician and artist, Kid Karpet.

Hosted by BFI NETWORK Talent Executive, Nicole Davis, the session will provide an insight into the panel’s journey to date and the key decision points that lead to them defining their role. 

Screenwriting Masterclass with Olivia Hetreed

British screenwriter, Olivia Hetreed, will deliver a masterclass in screenwriting and discuss her career path with Simon Nelson, Development Executive at BBC Writersroom. Olivia’s work includes the multi-award-winning, BAFTA and Oscar-nominated Girl with a Pearl Earring, starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson, and the award-winning, critically acclaimed radical adaptation of Wuthering Heights directed by Andrea Arnold.

Film3: An Introduction

Crypto is a reality in 2022, and in the first of three events on Film3, this introductory session will cover what filmmakers need to know about funding their short films using NFTs and DAOs. Two Bristol-based creators explore the possibilities and risks.

Film3: How it’s working now with Decentralised Pictures (DCP)

How to Succeed: Setting up a Production Company for the Long Term

Screen Star of Tomorrow producer Chi Thai presents this masterclass on setting up your own independent production company, using Last Conker (her own production company) as a case study to talk through the do’s and don’t. Joined by accountant Nigel Harris, this session will give practical advice on how to keep your production company viable in the long term after your first short.
