The 38th European Film Awards will take place this Saturday, 17 January, at the headquarters of the European Film Academy in Berlin. Often referred to as the European equivalent of the Oscars, the European Film Awards are the most prestigious film honours on the continent, with the European Film Academy (EFA) celebrating excellence in European cinema each year.

The live broadcast of the awards ceremony will be available to watch on Saturday, 17 January from 5pm GMT via the video above.

More than 5,000 members of the European Film Academy, representing filmmakers from across Europe, voted for this year’s winners. The ceremony will honour the achievements of European cinema.

This year’s awards are particularly exciting with three of the five nominees for European Short Film – Prix Vimeo hailing from the UK:

  • Being John Smith (dir. John Smith)

  • Man Number 4 (dir. Miranda Pennell)

  • The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing (dir. Theo Panagopoulos)
