It is with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 iteration of Encounters Film Festival which would have been the 30th edition of the festival.
We feel it is important to also make you aware of the external funding situation for the Encounters Short Film Festival. Since 2023 funding from European funders has ceased and the BFI has implemented strategic changes meaning they no longer fund the festival. Bristol City Council has reviewed its multi-year support to a number of arts and culture organisations, and sadly we are also one of these.
